Custom Flat Caps Manufacturer & Wholesale Supplier(7 designs)

The flat cap — also sold as an ivy cap, driving cap or golf cap — is the closest-fitting of the heritage shapes: a low, flat crown with a short stiff front brim and a seamless, understated profile. Its simplicity is the difficulty, because there is nowhere to hide a poorly set brim or an uneven seam. SXMX manufactures custom flat caps from our facility in Houjie, Dongguan, China, in wool, tweed, corduroy, cotton and leather builds, with your branding applied as a patch, a label or subtle embroidery. MOQ is 100 pieces per style, sampling takes 5–7 days, and bulk production runs 15–25 days after sample approval.

Buying guide

Sourcing Custom Flat Caps from China

Fabric & Material Options

  • Wool and wool blends — the traditional flat cap material, with good shape retention
  • Tweed — patterned wool with visible texture; the strongest heritage choice
  • Corduroy — a textured, durable option at a lower cost
  • Cotton twill and canvas — lighter versions for transitional seasons
  • Linen blends — for spring and summer programmes
  • Leather and leather-look (PU) — for a more fashion-led silhouette

Construction Options

  • Crown — 5-panel or 6-panel low-profile construction, or a single-piece seamed crown
  • Brim — short, stiff and slightly down-curved, with a defined edge finish
  • Lining — satin, quilted, fleece or unlined
  • Closure — elasticated back insert, adjustable strap, or a fitted sized run
  • Sizing — one-size with elastic, or a sized run for retail
  • Details — a small top button, contrast lining, and visible stitch detailing along the brim edge

Customization Options

  • Woven and embroidered patches — on the front panel or the side
  • Debossed leather patches — a natural fit for the heritage aesthetic
  • Flat embroidery — a small centred monogram or wordmark; the crown is low, so keep the design compact
  • Metal badges and pin badges
  • Custom woven label, inner label, hang tag and packaging
  • Contrast lining and contrast brim edge stitching

MOQ, Sampling, Quality & Shipping

MOQ is 100 pieces per style for fully custom flat caps. Sampling takes 5–7 days after fabric, lining and closure are confirmed, and bulk production is 15–25 days after sample approval and deposit. Unit prices step down at the usual 100, 300, 500 and 1,000 piece tiers.

A flat cap is held together by the brim and the crown seam: if the brim is not properly stiffened the cap flops forward, and if the crown seam drifts the shape looks lopsided. Our QC checks brim stiffness and edge finish, crown symmetry, lining set, decoration placement and measurements on every finished hat before packing — not a sample of them, every one. We ship worldwide by DHL, FedEx, air or sea freight with photo documentation of goods and cartons.

Not sure which construction suits your artwork? Send us the design and we will recommend the fabric and decoration method that makes it look right. Read our full guides on hat decoration methods, how MOQ works and choosing a hat manufacturer.

Custom Flat Caps: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MOQ for custom flat caps?
100 pieces per style for fully customized flat caps, including fabric, lining and closure choices. Simpler logo-only changes on styles we already produce can sometimes be run in smaller quantities.
What is the difference between a flat cap and an ivy cap?
They are essentially the same shape. "Ivy cap" and "driving cap" are the more common terms in North America, while "flat cap" is standard in the UK. Both describe a low, flat crown with a short stiff front brim. We confirm the exact crown height, brim length and edge finish at sampling so there is no ambiguity.
Can flat caps be made in tweed?
Yes, and tweed is the strongest material for the heritage look. Because tweed is a pattern-woven wool, there is unit-to-unit variation in where the pattern falls — we will show you the fabric before sampling so you can approve it.
Do you make one-size and sized flat caps?
Both. A one-size build uses an elasticated back insert, which suits a wide range of head sizes and simplifies stockholding. Sized runs are used for retail programmes that need a defined size curve, and we recommend confirming your market’s size distribution before committing.
How long does a flat cap order take?
Sampling takes 5–7 days after fabric, lining and closure are confirmed. Bulk production is 15–25 days after sample approval and deposit, depending on quantity and decoration.
