Design Notes for Unstructured Caps
A dad cap is soft, which means the front panel moves with the wearer’s head. This has two consequences for design:
- Keep embroidery compact and well centred — a large design on a soft panel will distort when worn
- A small woven patch or a clean wordmark always reads better than a dense 3D puff graphic on an unstructured crown
- Tonal or two-colour embroidery photographs better and looks more expensive than a multi-colour blast on this shape
- A leather strap closure adds a disproportionate amount of perceived quality to a low-cost product
